My 11-year-old wants to join TikTok. What should I know?
Great question. Here's what you need to know: TikTok's minimum age is 13 in the UK, so your child technically isn't eligible yet. However, many children bypass this. If you do allow access, I'd recommend: enabling Restricted Mode, setting Family Pairing to link your account, limiting DMs to friends only, and setting daily screen time limits. Want me to walk you through the exact setup steps?
Yes please, and what are the main risks?
The main risks for under-13s include: inappropriate content surfacing via the algorithm, contact from strangers via DMs and comments, data collection (TikTok collects significant data), and addictive design patterns. I'll send you the step-by-step Family Pairing guide now...

Moderated

The digital world changes
faster than any parent can keep up.

New platforms, new risks, new AI tools — every week brings something new. Most parents feel overwhelmed and underprepared.

Social Media Risks

From TikTok trends to Snapchat disappearing messages, children face cyberbullying, grooming, and harmful content daily. 73% of UK teens have experienced something upsetting online.

AI & Deepfakes

Children are using AI tools without guidance — and being targeted by AI-generated content. Parents need to understand these tools before their children do.

Gaming & In-App Purchases

Online gaming exposes children to predators, loot boxes, and addictive mechanics. £270M+ spent by UK children on in-game purchases annually.

Privacy & Data

Children unknowingly share personal data across apps. Most parents don't know what data is being collected or how to lock it down.

Smart Devices & Scams

From smart speakers that listen in to online scams targeting children, the threats extend well beyond social media. 1 in 5 UK children has encountered an online scam or phishing attempt.

Online Grooming

Predators exploit gaming chats, social DMs, and fan communities to build trust with children. 300,000+ reports of online child grooming filed with CEOP in the last three years.

Screen Time & Addiction

Algorithms are designed to maximise engagement — not wellbeing. UK children average 5.4 hours of daily screen time, with significant impact on sleep, mood, and academic performance.

Cyberbullying

Bullying follows children home via DMs, group chats, and anonymous apps — with no escape. 1 in 4 UK children experience cyberbullying, yet most never tell a parent.

Too much screen time is
reshaping childhood.

UK children aged 12–15 average 5.4 hours a day online, and 5+ hours daily is linked to three times the risk of anxiety and depression. Most families don't know where to draw the line — we show you how to set limits that actually hold.

"Digital Shields is such a useful tool for parents trying to keep their children safe online. It brings everything into one place — alerts about new online threats, help setting up parental controls, device safety audits, resources for difficult conversations and even a ‘Help Now’ section if something has already happened. What I love most is that, as parents, there’s simply no way we can keep up with every new app, scam, trend or danger ourselves. Digital Shields helps bridge that gap and makes the online world feel much easier to navigate. I genuinely think this is a lifeline for parents."

Parent

"I built Digital Shields because the advice aimed at parents was either frightening or vague, and almost none of it was written for how UK families actually live. We're deliberately small at the moment. If something here doesn't work for your family, tell me and it changes."

Common questions.

Everything you need to know about Digital Shields.

Digital Shields is a UK membership platform that helps parents understand and navigate their children's online world. We provide expert-written guides, video courses, real-time threat alerts, a parent community forum, and an AI-powered assistant — all focused exclusively on keeping children safe online.
Free resources are excellent starting points — we even link to them. What Digital Shields adds is continuous, personalised support: an AI assistant you can query anytime about your specific situation, weekly content updates reflecting the latest changes, moderated community forums for peer support, and structured family safety audits. Think of us as your ongoing safety partner, not a one-off pamphlet.
Shield AI is our purpose-built AI assistant focused exclusively on child online safety, UK law, and parental guidance. It's strictly locked to these topics — it won't answer off-topic questions. All conversations are private and GDPR-compliant. Your queries are never used to train any AI model — Anthropic's API data usage policy confirms this. We may review anonymised, aggregated query patterns (e.g. which topics parents ask about most) to improve our safety content and system prompts, but individual conversations are never read for this purpose. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Absolutely. There are no contracts and no cancellation fees. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. If you cancel, you'll retain access until the end of your current billing period. Our free tier is available permanently.
Yes! We cover all age groups from pre-school through to teenagers. Our content is categorised by age so you can find resources specific to your child's stage — whether that's tablet safety for a 4-year-old or social media guidance for a 15-year-old.
Our resource library is updated weekly with new guides, platform changes, and emerging threats. Threat alerts are pushed in real-time as they're identified. Video masterclasses are added monthly, and our AI assistant's knowledge base is continuously updated to reflect the latest information.
You get full access to your chosen plan from day one — no restrictions. We'll send you a reminder before day 14 so you're never surprised. Your card is only charged after the trial ends and you choose to continue. If you cancel at any time during the 14 days, you won't be charged a penny. There's no lock-in and no cancellation fee.
Yes — Digital Shields is a web app that runs in any modern browser on any device: smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. There's nothing to download or install. It works on iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac. We've optimised the portal specifically for mobile so you can access your safety guides and AI assistant on the go.
No. Digital Shields is not monitoring or spyware, and nothing is installed on your child's phone, tablet, or console. We're a knowledge and guidance platform for you, the parent — we teach you what to look for and how to set up the built-in protections each device and app already offers. Your child never needs to know you use it, and there's no tracking software involved.
Built-in controls (Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link) are excellent tools — and we show you exactly how to set them up. But they only cover the device. They can't tell you what a new TikTok trend means, what your child's slang is really saying, how to respond when something goes wrong, or which apps have just changed their safety settings. Digital Shields is the layer on top: the understanding, real-time alerts, and expert guidance that make those controls actually effective.
You're in control. Cancelling keeps your account on the free Explorer tier — nothing is deleted automatically. If you want to leave entirely, you can export all your data (audit progress, saved resources, preferences) as a JSON file and then permanently delete your account in two clicks from your settings, in line with your UK GDPR right to erasure. When you delete, your personal data is removed from our systems; community posts are anonymised rather than deleted so threads stay useful to other parents.
Yes — and we can prove it. We're Cyber Essentials Certified and enrolled in the NCSC's Active Cyber Defence programme — the UK government's own security standards — and we're fully UK GDPR compliant. Payments run through Stripe, so your card details never touch our servers. We deliberately collect the minimum data needed, never sell it, and never use your Shield AI conversations to train AI models. We're a UK-registered company (Infinity X Investments Ltd) and our full data practices are in our Privacy Policy.
Don't wait — the platform is live, the content is real, and every core feature works today. "Early access" simply means we're still building new features and actively listening to founding members to shape what comes next. If you join now, you get immediate access to all current features and your feedback directly influences what we prioritise. There's no benefit to waiting — and plenty of benefit to joining while the community is small and your voice carries more weight.

Know every app, trend and risk
your child encounters — before they do.

Digital Shields isn't about spying on your kids. It's about giving you the awareness to guide them — and the peace of mind to relax a little.
