If your teen has had an intimate image shared online without their consent, you need to act quickly — but you don't have to do it alone. Report Remove is a free tool designed to help young people get those images taken down from major platforms, often within hours. It's confidential, and your teen can use it themselves or with your support.
What Report Remove does
Report Remove is a service run by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) in partnership with major social media platforms. When a young person reports an intimate image through the tool, it:
- Sends the report directly to the platforms where the image has been shared (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, and others).
- Asks those platforms to remove the image and ban it from being reuploaded.
- Does all of this without the young person having to contact each platform individually.
- Works fast — many images are removed within hours.
- Keeps the report confidential and does not involve the police unless the young person chooses to report the abuse separately.
> Report Remove is free, anonymous, and designed for young people themselves to use. Your teen does not need your permission to report, though your support helps.
How to access Report Remove
Your teen (or you, on their behalf) can report an image directly through the Report Remove website at reportremove.org.
The process is straightforward:
- Go to reportremove.org and select "I want to report an image".
- Provide a direct link to the image on the platform where it's posted (e.g. the Instagram post URL).
- Answer a few brief questions about where the image has been shared.
- Submit the report.
- The young person will receive a reference number and be able to check the status of their report online at any time.
If your teen does not have the exact URL, Report Remove can help guide them through finding it. The tool works best with a specific link, but support is available if they're not sure.
